Atualmente, a linha ferrovi\u00e1ria em opera\u00e7\u00e3o, com 1.237 km em bitola m\u00e9trica, liga os portos de Itaqui (S\u00e3o Luis\/ MA), Pec\u00e9m (S\u00e3o Gon\u00e7alo do Amarante\/ CE) e Mucuripe (Fortaleza\/ CE), promovendo a integra\u00e7\u00e3o e dinamizando a economia regional.
