SOMAFEL starts the renovation of another section of the Beira Alta Line

Following the renovation of the sub-section between Guarda and Cerdeira, SOMAFEL will now participate in the modernization of the Cerdeira – Vilar Formoso sub-section, leading the consortium contracted for that purpose. The Project’s work assignment order was signed last June, and has an execution period of two years and a global value of approximately 43 million euros. The works will be carried out over a length of 29 kilometers and include, among others, the following activities:

• Complete renovation of the track between Cerdeira and Vilar Formoso;
• Remodeling of the layouts of the Cerdeira, Noémi and Vilar Formoso stations, with the respective increase in the track length of the secondary lines, for the reception of 750m freight trains and optimization of operating conditions;
• Construction of infrastructure to support Signaling;
• Implementation of the traction return current and earth protection (RCT+TP) system;
• Reformulation of the existing Catenary, both in stations and in new variants to the layout;
• Full regularization of the catenary to the new project

This contract is part of the Beira Alta line Modernization project, within the scope of the Railway 2020 Program – Northern International Corridor, in which SOMAFEL has been actively participating.
