Occupational Health and Safety

SOMAFEL has always paid special attention to professional risks, establishing management and decision making processes that allow it to coordinate prevention, legal and regulatory provisions imposed by the infrastructure managers, the performance of projects and their economic outlook.

Safety Culture

SOMAFEL embodies a true safety culture, visible in the behaviour of its workers, and everyone who works in its name, in its construction methods, in its equipment and tools, in its collective and personal protection and in the good results in terms of occupational accidents and diseases.

Following the safety practices intrinsic to the organization, SOMAFEL has its Health and Safety Management System certified according to the ISO 45001 standard since 2006.

In addition to this, and following the supplier qualification process required in the United Kingdom by the Infrastructure managers Network Rail and TfL – Transport for London for the direct procurement, SOMAFEL also obtained the certification of its RISQS system, which embodies the Health and Safety Management system, accordingly to the qualification scheme in place.

The construction process differs from refurbishment for two reasons: first, it is carried out on a platform to install new tracks and fixed electric traction equipment, i.e., there is no need to remove any old material and, second, it does not interfere with railway operations.
