Description
The construction of the Moçâmedes railway line started in 1905, still with a 0,600 m gauge, and was completed in 1961, with several partial openings during the construction period. On the day the whole line was opened, the gauge was already 1,067 m.
In 1964, Somafel started a set of works on this railway line, including:
- Track laying, ballasting and tamping works on the Munhino Bypass
- Track laying , ballasting and tamping works on the third section of the Serra da Chela Bypass
- Track laying , ballasting and tamping works on the second section of the Serra da Chela Bypass
- Track refurbishment on the Moçâmedes Line between km 333 and km 525
